Collection: Screw Air Compressors
Rotary Screw Compressors
Rotors rotated by screw compressors – Rotary screw air compressors work in a continuously-operating mode with two screws (rotors) combined to pull air through a closed box. When the screws turn, they squeeze out as much trapped air as possible, and that adds pressure. These compressors tend to come as oil-cooled or oilless models.
Benefits of Rotary Screw Compressors:
- Resilient to Continuous Running: Rotary screw air compressors are designed to operate continuously, so it is suitable for all types of systems where you want a reliable flow of air.
- Quiet and Smooth Running: Rotary screw air compressors are usually quieter than reciprocating compressors, with less vibration, which is helpful when you have a closed or noisy space.
- Low Maintenance: Using less moving parts, they typically are easier to maintain and last longer than reciprocating units in the same applications.
- Excellent Performance: Rotary screw air compressors are extremely powerful and generate more air with less energy which can save you in the long run.
Weaknesses of Rotary Screw Compressors:
- Higher Investment Cost: Rotary screw air compressors are higher in price in the beginning, but you may pay for them in the long run because they’re efficient and durable.
- Requires Expert Care: These are low-maintenance, but repair or parts replacement typically requires a professional because the internal mechanisms are more complicated than those of reciprocating compressors.
- Not a Good Fit for Small-Scale Applications: Rotary screw compressors, because of their higher price and capacity, don’t usually make much sense for small scale or sporadic applications.
Rotary Screw Compressor Use Cases :
- Assembly and Manufacturing Lines are great for industrial spaces where the air supply has to be constant to run multiple tools and machines.
- Food and Beverage Processing: It can drive conveyor belts, packing equipment, and cleaning equipment where the production of consistent, non-contaminated air is a concern.
- Pharmaceuticals: Used in pharmaceutical manufacturing applications that demand reliability and cleanliness of air (eg packaging, material handling, temperature control etc.).
- Air Conditioning: Rotary screw compressors in HVAC systems on a large scale for airflow and temperature regulation.
- Cleaning: Used in applications where compressed air is used to clean/remove dirt and low noise levels are critical.
